Short History

• May, 1992 -  Department for measuring instruments and precious metals is formed  within Ministry of economy
• September,1994- Republic of Macedonia become a Member State of OIML – International Organization for Legal Metrology
• April,1995- according to the new Macedonian Law on measuring unites and measuring instruments that was adopted by the Government of Republic of Macedonia in 1995 ("Official Bulletin of Republic of Macedonia" No.23/1995), the Department for measuring instruments and precious metals was transformed into  Institution of standardization and metrology,
• September, 2001 - the Institution of standardization and metrology was transformed into Service for Standardization and Metrology according to the Law on Governmental bodies.
• July, 2002 – Bureau of metrology was founded in accordance to the new harmonized Law on Metrology("Official Bulletin of Republic of Macedonia" No.55/2002)
